Guide to Moving Your CoD4 Profile, Includes Screen Shots.

Ok, I've noticed a lot of people asking how you do it, so I'm going to make a guide for it.
    For XP Users:
    1) Go to the CoD4 folder in explore.
a)Right Click Start, then click on "Explore"
    b) Then go to: C/: Program files/Activision/Call of Duty 4.

    2) Make a copy of your profile folder.
    a) C:Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 4/Profiles.
    b) Right Click on the profile you'd like to move and scroll to "Copy".

    3) Put your profile onto a flash drive, extra hard drive, floppy disc etc. (basically anything that can move a file from one computer to another)
    a) Drag the profile copy and drop it into the respected removable drive.
(Usually "Removable Disc E or F")

    4) Take your profile folder and put it into the spot: C/: Program files/Activision/Call of Duty 4/Profiles on the new computer.
    a) If your starting from a new Call of Duty 4 game you have to create a profile in order for it to show up.

    5) Start up CoD4 multiplayer and select the profile you just uploaded.
    a) Start up Call of Duty 4 and select the profile you just added.
    b) If starting from a newly installed Call of Duty 4, create a profile then see Step 6

    6) Drag and Drop the copied profile into the newly created Profiles folder.
a)Drag and Drop the copied profile to the: C/:Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 4/Profiles.
    b) See Step 7

    7) Open up Call of Duty 4 and Select the copied profile you just added to Call of Duty 4.

    For 32 bit Vista Users:

Step 2: From the top left choose organize and then Folder and search options. Select the view tab and tick show hidden files and folders. Click OK and return to the above directory.

Step 3: Copy the now visible profile and paste into C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles. Also paste a copy to your desktop as a back up and delete the file that is in the Virtual directory. Make sure it is empty!

Step 4: Right click on the folder and if it shows the Hidden option is ticked... uncheck it. Click ok and open the folder. Now highlight the files inside. Should be 3 of them. Right click and go to properties. If they are showing up as hidden, untick that also.

Step 5: Now to test. Open COD4 and it should automatically load your profile. Choose Create Class and rename any class to a different name. Quit COD4 and open it up again. Check to see if your class was renamed. If it was, you are in luck and back in the game!

Step 6: Refer to step 2 and choose to hide your system files again.

Step 7: Make sure you make regular backups of your profile. You might also want to choose to right click the COD4 file and choose the option to always run it as an administrator.

If you need any help beyond this, just post. I will gladly help further, as will most other forum users.

Oh, and I think one of the people who is asking is doing it right, but something isn't working. It's in this topic here. My theory is that something is either excluding itself from the copy, or failing to be re-written.

Just cause it didn't make sticky then doesn't mean it shouldn't get it now though. It's a common question, and it would save us the time of explaining it.

Exactly, although there should be a vista section, as in vista, the directories and folders are different.

They differ that much from 2000 and XP? I wouldn't know because I've only used vista once.

You'd think so, but you'd be surprised at how many people have no clue how to do it.

If you need a guide to do it, you seriously shouldn't be playing games on a computer.

yes but no one likes you as you're bad at the game.

so is stix but w.e if a person can't work out how to do what the OP is saying they shouldn't be using a PC let alone playing an online game.

Yeah, I think vista uses different directories to make it harder for the user to find things. I could look it up for you if you want?

Actually Vista uses the same directory for COD4. So it's the same unless you have a 64 bit OS then it's C/: Program files (x86) /Activision/Call of Duty 4

Ok, I'll check some forums, and I might see if my dad can reinstall CoD4 for a bit.
