Please insert install disk - Temporary FIX

Many people have been getting this please insert install disk and press ok to retry error.

Well i am one of those many people and here is how to fix it.

    Press Start
    Go to Control panel
    Then click system
    Then click hardware
    Now device manager.

After you have opened the device manager you need to find DVD/CD-Rom drives, you then double click it and the make of you're DVD/CD-rom drive will pop up

So you right click on that and click disable and press ok on the little message box that appers - then you right click on it again and click Enable.

you can now close down the device manager and load up 2142.

Any problems then post here or PM me (may make this in video format ass well if people struggle)

To see if it actually works for people having this problem?

    Use your common sense.

i only get that error when i run bf in the xp emulator in vista. so, i don't run the emulator, and deal with the occasional crash (once every 2-3 hrs i crash)

hey, for vista users, this is a method that I used.
-Find your desktop icon for battlefield 2142
-Right click and go to "properties"
-Go to "compatibility" and UNCHECK "Run this program in compatibility for".
-Also, check "disable visual themes" and "disable desktop composition".

Try to run the game, if it does not work, try a reinstallation.

If you get this error, and this method doesn't work, disable ALL emulation software. BF2142 really hates Virtual drives. I had Alcohol 120% installed and 2142 became very very instable, and eventually wouldn't work at all. After installation, it worked perfect :P

Feel free to add me, provide a reason though.

Another problem that I have discovered is that BF2142 does not have AHCI (advanced host controller interface) support for SATA drives. If you have AHCI enabled with a SATA DVD drive BF2142 will install fine but when it looks for the disk when loading it will error out.

A good way to discover if this is the case is you will see a red circle with a white x in the middle to the left side of the error message instead of a yellow triangle with a black exclamation point.

To fix this problem I had to go out and buy an IDE DVD RW drive. :?

EA was less than helpful and just gave me standard bot answers. I don't think they will patch this anytime soon. To bad EA has a hold of Crysis and C&C 3. I hope nothing earth shattering happens to those games.
