IN-GAME CHAT not working with any games

Since X-FIRE version 1.99 i've never had any games work properly with the "IN-GAME CHAT" feature. I would boot up to Windows XP, load X-FIRE manually (since i don't have it on AUTO LOAD at Startup) and it will only work with the first game i launch and never again until i re-boot. Sometimes i have noticed that even with the first game i launch the x-fire stops working while chatting, so the messages aren't being sent anymore. I can still bring up the chat, but whatever i type it will not switch onto the above window when enter button is pressed. I've tried the re-installing process (even used Ccleaner to delete keys from the registry if there is any after the X-FIRE uninstall) with no help.

    -Windows XP SP3 32BIT
    -Shadow Skin
    -Games not working (ALL)
Call of Duty, Prey, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dirt, Far Cry 2, Pure, Flatout, Mercenaries 2, STALKER - Clear Skys, Crysis Warhead, Alone in the Dark, Brothers in Arms - Hells highway, Call of Duty WAW, Dead Space, NFS - Undercover.
-All games are on the Launch Menu and can run just fine
-Key Bind "ENTER + \ (Doesn't matter, i've tried different ones with no success)
    -Yes Game messaging enabled
-Render Modes:Most games are greyed out in D3D9 except Bioshock, Far Cry 2 which aren't greyed out and have D3D9 and D3D10. Dirt on the other hand is greyed out and just says NONE in the "In-Game Renderer".
    -Not running Fraps
-No i'm not using any "NO CD" patch or mod, all games running retail .exe file.
    -Video Card: 8800GT
-Video Card drivers: Forceware 180.48 (I have used previous versions but doesn't matter)
    -Direct X 9.0c November 2008 UPDATE

    mackymack,

Do you use Steam Friends Overlay? If yes, try closing it to see if it helps in some or all of your games. Any application that draws on screen can prevent Xfire in Game from working consistently or at all.

If you post a screenshot of your running processes (Ctrl+shift+esc, click processes tab) we can see if any other applications you have running may be the cause for the issue. Sort by Image name and make sure we can clearly see the entire name of the exe. If it takes two screenshots to see the entire list that's fine.

Now, if you still have trouble, pick one game (since they're all different it will be easy to start with one and get it fixed before we move on) and we'll troubleshoot that one first.

Now for some of your games Xfire requires you to change the in-game renderer in Xfire to match the renderer you're running the game in.
How do I change the Xfire in Game renderer for my game? That may or may not be the issue for you in some of your games (like Bioshock and the other games that aren't greyed out as you described above).

In any case, post back with the above information and let us know if it helps. Also let us know which game you want to work with first.

    Thanks.

No, i don't use Steam. First game i want to troubleshoot is Call of Duty. I'm running DirectX 9.0c in XP so the rendering modes are setup correctly i'm assuming which shouldn't be the problem.

    Screenshot of my Processes..

Try disabiling RivaTuner & see if you get In-Game after that.

I just tried closing down Rivatuner v2.20 with no availability. Okay, Ran Call of Duty for the first time since i logged into X-FIRE and the "In-Game Chat" worked which usually does. Now ran Call of Duty for the second time and the "In-Game Chat" ran again, but came on with alittle delay which i've seen happen a few times as well. But third, and fourth and so on of running Call of Duty i didn't see the "In-Game Chat" come on.

So am i really stuck here or there is really just not much help available?

It might be some sort of RAID configuration problem. Because my system specs are practically the same setup as another system that i have here at home but without the raid and that system runs xfire fine. All i know is that it was working on version .97 or little higher on xfire, but now after a reformat the same issue. I don't know what to do....

    mackymack:

    Sorry for the delayed response.

Can you submit a debug log for us to take a look at?

    Detailed instructions are here:

    http://www.xfire.com/faq/#73

Start where it says "The second log file is generated by Xfire".

We look forward to helping you narrow down the cause of this issue.

Since yesterday from reformatting and installing Vista 32BIT i no longer have the "IN-GAME" issue. I was having the issue with XP SP3 but still not sure why? So upgrading from XP to VISTA has fixed my problem. It would be nice to know what was the cause of this issue, but for now i guess i'll stick with VISTA. Thank you for your help and concern....

RE: IN-GAME CHAT not working with any games

I would like to continue this discussion.

It seems that rivatuner server for OSD like temps for gpu and cpu whjile playing in game is blocking acces to xfire chat or any other functions.

Is there a way to fix this by disabling the on screen xfire FPS and time ?

    Maybe this interfeers with rivatuner.
