Thread: No sound on xfire client

    No sound on xfire client

I have recently installed xfire onto my computer (running Vista), and it almost completely works with exception of the sound. The beeps and such that come up when logging in/off or sending/recieving messages do not appear. I have checked the options on xfire and the sounds are setup to run, and all the other sounds on the computer run as well so it can't be my speakers. Does anybody happen to have a solution to this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Do any of the sounds work?

No, none of the sounds work for xfire.

To clarify, when I say "no sounds work for xfire" I am not meaning sounds in a recorded video or anything. I mean when I open xfire up on my computer and login, no sounds are made. When a friend messages me (or I message a friend) no sound is displayed.

Again, I have checked the options for xfire and all sounds are enabled. And in case you think I'm stupid, yes my speakers are on. I would like a solution to this as soon as possible.

I would very much like to be enlightened how to fix this problem. I understand someone may be looking into the matter, but can I at least I have a message saying that you are? I have missed several messages because of this sound problem. Looking forward to some feedback.

    Hello delta51viper,

Can you open Xfire and go to Tools | Options | Sounds tab and either post a screenshot or list here which boxes are checked.

Also, please use our Gaming Rig feature to upload some current system specs for us. (don't type them... use the link or we won’t get all the data we need)

If you have previously uploaded a Game Rig, please do it again. We want the most up to date info possible when troubleshooting your issue.

    Thanks!

Here is a link to a screenshot of the checked boxes: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...screenshot.jpg. I'm not sure if you can see it that well but I couldn't find out how to zoom in on it and save it like that. If you can't see, the checked boxes are:
    "Send or recieve a message"
    "Recieve a message while gaming"
    "Friend logs on or off"
"Someone joins or leaves the chat room"
"Send or recieve voice chat requests"
    "Take a screenshot while gaming"
The sound pack in use is the classic sound pack. I have not changed it, so it is the default.

And as of today my gaming rig has been updated.
And let me say, thanks in advance frost.

    delta51viper,

Can you check your Windows default Sound Device via the Windows Control Panel? What is selected as your default sound device for playback?

    Thanks!

My default sound device for playback is "Realtek High Definition Audio". It is also my only option under the playback tab. There are no other choices even when I have it set to show disabled devices.

All my attempts at restoring sound has so far not worked. Uninstalling then reinstalling xfire hasn't helped.

Make sure you got a "sounds" folder in "C:\Program Data\Xfire" with a file called defaults.zip in it. If not, this folder can be found in "C:\Program Files\Xfire", then copy\paste it to the Program Data\Xfire folder and restart xfire. I had to do this a few times before, mainly on win 7, but also on Vista. Try it

    delta51viper:

First the obvious. As radexx mentioned, if you go to c:\programdata\xfire\sounds do you have a defaults.zip file there?

Do you have a red speaker icon in your system tray (Realtek HD audio manager)?

If so, double click that speaker icon. What settings have you changed there? Do you have a "Device advanced settings" link in the upper right hand corner of that window? If so, click that and check the playback setting there.

Let us know if any of this information helps you.

I have checked my C:\ProgramData\Xfire folder and there is a sounds folder in it. It also has the "defaults.zip" within it.
After seeing that none of the folders like "sounds" or "skins" were in Program Files\Xfire so I copied them to there thinking it might help. Unfortunately it didn't.

Mfive I do happen to have a red speaker icon in my toolbar, I have never changed any options on it so it should be on the defaults. When I click on device advanced settings I have two options:
(Selected) "Mute the rear output device, when a front headphone plugged in."

"Make front and rear output devices play two different audio streams simultaneously."

The problem has not been fixed yet, but this information is definitely helping me understand more. Thanks everyone.

The following are screenshots showing what options I have on it:

I hope the screenshots provide some clarity on the problem.

I too noticed the same thing with Win 7, not vista. I had no problems with xfire in Vista.

it may not be Xfire? it my be Vista?
make sure Vista sound properties is set to 24bits 48000hz (Studio Quality)
not the red speaker.. the one further to the right of it
This reminds me of the issue with cod5

Well, the more we look into this problem the more I am thinking it's my computer that's the problem. I have checked all the sound options and they are set to 24 bits 48000hz (Studio Quality).
