Thread: Halo Custom edition dedicated server mods?

Halo Custom edition dedicated server mods?

Yeah yeah, we all want to know how to do it, but really, HOW DO WE DO IT?

    considerations:

A] I know its possible; there are modded servers running 24/7
B] I've tried halo map conversion but that only allows people with the same map file to join the game, otherwise it crashes.
C] As far as mods go, all i want to do is have an assault rifle that shoots frags.
D] from what I've heard people use scripts...

Is it that hard to help? :/

What you need to do is set up the server to have connecting clients download the MODs either from the server or a redirect. I wouldn't be able to tell you how to configure downloads on Halo servers because I've never done it, but I've done it with a number of other games & know that people who don't have that MOD won't be able to play on a server running it without a method of downloading it.

In my experience WG, the servers won't even show up if the player didn't download the modded map before starting up the game.

Depends on the type of mod. If it's an item/teleport/vehicle duplication/placement mod, it would be compatible with everyone. Basically, if it's not possible to change something with a gametype, it's not possible to have others see the mod without downloading it. For example, gametypes can change what type of weapons appear on the map, certain markers(which means spawnpoints and teleports), number of vehicles, and instances of overshield or active camouflage. You can't change the scenery in a map with gametypes, and you can't change the projectiles of a weapon, thus it is not something that would be seen by the person playing without the mod, though they are affected by the host server's logic. Also, just have the modded map in the maps folder of the dedicated server ofc. Wondergamer's post is completely irrelevant considering how Halo simply doesn't work that way.

    Also, the dark age.

This was actually moved from General.
I'd like to say as an addendum though I could've sworn I've played on servers that have alternate projectiles. They may have been on CE, I can't remember.

Yeah.. you can swap projectiles, but not move scenery around. The experience is better if the players had downloaded the map though, as that the players that haven't downloaded the map can't see the switched projectiles. So if you modded the assault rifle to shoot tank rounds, the non-downloading players can see the effects of the explosion (tanks flying around etc.) but to them they would be shooting normal assault rifle bullets.

Basically, it doesn't sync up and you only see the effects of the host server.
