Xfire Game Customizer (Currently In BETA)

Have you ever wanted to record/broadcast a game that wasn't compatible with Xfire?

Tired of re-editing entries after each and every Xfire update?

Want an easy way to share your custom Xfire Game entries?

Want Xfire to update your status automatically for games that are unsupported?

    Introducing Xfire Game Customizer!

I initially made a youtube video on how to manually get games to work with Xfire, but people still had trouble following it. So I decided I would make the process all automated for you!

    Disclaimer

Xfire Game Customizer DOES NOT allow you to cheat or otherwise affect the gameplay of a game. This program is not designed to give you an edge in your game!

    Description

Xfire Game Customizer allows you to use games with Xfire that would otherwise be incompatible. What this means is that you could, for example, get Dolphin (Gamecube Emulator) or Project64 (Nintendo 64 Emulator) to record/broadcast video.

I tried to make the interface as user-friendly as possible, but if you have an idea on how to make it even easier, please let me know.

Xfire Game Customizer is currently in-beta. This means that it probably has bugs/is still being updated frequently.

Personally tried and tested it myself. It works very well and allowed me to use xfire with an MMO still in beta form. Definitly a revolution in the was xfire will work.

Wow, I leave for a couple hours....

Thank you Ben McDermott. Finally a sensible post .

I don't blame anyone for being suspicious of the file, but as you can see from that report, it's clean. Like I said earlier too, If a mod would like to review the source code for the program, they are free to do so.

I will be posting some help videos soon. I'm sure that once you see the videos, you will know that I am not here to steal your account.

Also, if you want to talk to me, add me on Xfire or Skype (hypnotoadtrance) I will tell you all about it. For now, I am making a help video my number one priority.

    Thank you.

    Source code reviewed. Signatures match.

That was a LOT of code to read. I see you've put much time and effort into that.

Good job, and good luck on your project.

It worked perfect for me. I used it with Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World, it worked wonders. But if you use it for an emulator, make sure the emulator uses plugins. I would just recommend a couple of tweaks here and there for people who know very little about computers (like me) and a spell check.

    Version 1.2 Released

Great news everyone, I made the program even more user-friendly.

It will now try to automatically find the renderer used in-game.

    Also added settings menu. (options->settings)

I am greatly impressed with myself in that I was able to get it to detect the renderer.
Note that it is still experimental, so if it doesn't detect the renderer, you will need to wait for further improvements.

Thanks for the spot of encouragement, and oddly enough that you should mention it, I am now part of the Xfire GM team. So yeah, I technically "work" for them now. But I'm keeping that on the down low until I establish myself well.

If you have any problems with the program, let me know and I will try to fix them.

RE: Xfire Game Customizer (Currently In BETA)

    version 1.3.0.1 released.

This version introduces the "auto-fill" feature. Just click the button, find your game, and it does the rest for you.

NOTE: This is still very experimental, it may not catch everything, or it might get something wrong.

RE: Xfire Game Customizer (Currently In BETA)

This seems like an awesome thing you're doing here, man... I'm looking forward to getting this to work, as I have several older games and programs that I like to use, which I would like xfire to detect and change my status accordingly when I start it up to show people what I'm doing.

However, whenever I start the program up and click "Auto Setup," an error pops up that says:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
    Parameter name:index"

Here's all the code that is posted with the error:

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Also, before I started getting this error, I actually had linked up a program called "Mid's Hero & Villain Designer" with it (no renderer--it plays in a window, like iTunes), and although it would say in my status bar (where you can physically change your status manually) "Mids Hero & Villain Designer," it would not actually broadcast that to any of my online friends or list it beside my name in my friends list. I asked several of my friends if they could see that status displayed next to my name, and they replied that all they saw was "Online."

    Help?

RE: Xfire Game Customizer (Currently In BETA)

EDIT: Anyone receiving this error should go to Options->Settings and "Clear Saved Data". This has been proven to fix this issue. I will post a fix once I think I have fixed the problem.

Oddly enough I have been getting reports of this error, and I thought I fixed it several times?

I am unable to reproduce this error myself.

You might be able to fix it by going to:

Options->Settings and click "clear saved data"

    What version are you using?

    What windows are you using?

Did the program always do this, or did it start happening after you deleted an entry from the "previously loaded" list?

Also, you can remove the JIT information from your post now, I copied it to a text file.

As for it not updating your display, I just tested it myself, and it will show it for me, but no one else. Darn, I will need to find a way to fix that. I'm sorry about that, I will edit the main post and remove that as a listed feature until I fix it.

RE: Xfire Game Customizer (Currently In BETA)

Alright, I released 1.3.0.2 this version should prevent the error, but I can't say for sure, because no matter how hard I tried, I could not even reproduce the error.

I also fixed a problem with the Auto Fill-in button, it will now configure itself for direct input, if it finds it.

Also, I changed the icon for Xfire Game Customizer. Hope you all like it.

    Hypno,
I just got back from moving. Very impressive!

I would love to talk about how we can help bring your tool to more people and give you the credit you deserve for your hard work!

Hit me up on Xfire if you have a chance. I'm very impressed!

Yesterday was April fools day, and X-Fire..
You people who run X-fire are irresponsible.
    ..run X-fire have a responsibility..
It\'s written XFIRE, and every time you write it wrong, you kill a kitten..or other animal within my range.

Wow, thanks. I see you're a Futurama fan as well (nods toward avatar). Awesome. I will send you an Xfire friend request right away.

On another note: it'd be a great help if you could sticky this thread. Being that I plan to work on this until either I get it to a one-click play interface. Or I reach the limit of my current abilities and go open-source. Also, I don't know if "general" is the correct forum to put this in. Initially, I was considering putting it in the Tech Support forum, but I decided to post here and see how well it stuck with the community.

Perhaps once I perfect this or I exit beta stage, you could implement this (either a direct copy or your own variation) into Xfire itself. Specifically as part of Tools->Options->Games and then add a new button like "add game"

Also, a thought just came to mind as I write this... a thought that I will work on right away! If someone gets a game to work with Xfire I will have an "Upload game info" button. That way if you try adding a game that someone already figured out how to get working, it just fetches the pre-set data! Then you start getting the Peer-to-Peer effect! The more who use it, the faster you can add games! Oh man this is guna be a fun challenge to program.. perhaps I will set up a FTP server...haha, I don't even know how to access FTP servers through C#. I'll figure something out.

( should stop rambling now, and get to work! XD )

    Version 1.3.0.3 released.

I just realized that the Restore from Backup button didn't actually restore from the backup x_x

Fixed that, and as much as I'd love to keep programming, the bed beckons to me. Sadly, I can't sleep, because I keep thinking about programming.

Oh man, I'm sure a few Xfire employees know what I'm talking about.

See you guys in the morning.

I see a couple of you are reporting the program as Broken/Useless. I am sorry that it didn't work as intended for you. If you could tell me what exactly is wrong, I would definitely try to fix it.

RE: Xfire Game Customizer (Currently In BETA)

    Version 1.3.0.4 released!

I fixed the Load button so that it will remember what Special Game Options you had selected.

I added a new option called "Game Executable". This is for when the launcher exe and the actual game exe are different.
(eg;Fallout: New Vegas is launched from FalloutNVLauncher.exe, but the actual game is run from FalloutNV.exe)

I also removed the prompt on load that asks if you want to enable the advanced section. From now on, it won't parse the ini unless you navigate to the "advanced" tab and click "Load entries".
