There is one way to try to get that error away (but I don't know, does it work on Servers).
Go and find the place you have installed your UT2004. Goto the folder called System, find the UT2004-file and delete it (check the picture).
If you feel uncomfortable of deleting it, you can first copy it to somewhere else (just in case) and then delete it from the System-folder.

Atleast this works on the same error, what comes up, when you are opening the UT. As I said, I'm not sure, does this fix the Server problem, but you can still test it out =)
Something you try first is to look at the shortcut by which you normally invoke a server, and replicate any command line switches you see there in the command line box in xfire.
i say this because, for example, when i look at my Quake 4 Multiplayer shortcut, there is this "+set fs_game q4mp" [minus quote marks]. This tells the quake 4 executable to use the q4mp subdirectory to store / retrieve information specific and relevant to multiplayer sessions of the game.
Before i included this in the xfire command line box, i was often asked by quake 4 to re-enter my quake 4 key. After duplicating this line in xfire, i haven't received requests for reentering my key.

Try using this patch http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7VCK2NAY.
You need the version 3369 of UT2004 to use it.
This let you choose servers in-game and I had no problem with xfire servers
