there are few left!!!! The game is still fun but competition is gone gone! lol but o well game last like 5 years with competition.....waiting for the next battlefield!

We don't play the original game anymore, just the mod called Project Reality which basicly is what Battlefield 2 should have been.

most peaple either play one of the 2 biggest mods (Forgotten hope 2 and/or Project Reality, Both getting probably more then 1000 players a day, Not sure about that number though), But most clans and servers that i found fun have moved to a mod or a new game.

There are a ton of servers avail still for BF2 that I enjoy.. as far as competitive play, there are still quite a few active in TWL. Around 40-50 atm.. Used to play the heck outta PR, not played the most recent version of FH2 tho. Been wanting to check it out again for ages. Been stuck playin BC2, and occasionally BO here and there.

There are a few mods out there, which are still being played:

AIX: Allied Intent Extended. Basically the same as the regular BF2 but with a bunch of new air assets and weapons.
Gameplay gehts really dull when one team conquers both airports and gets to rape the enemy team down to their last spawn.
But it's worth a look if you like the flying aspect of Bf2

Project Reality tries to bring reality into Bf2. It is very different from AIX in the way that it's not about "fun" (as in ramming jets into enemy helos, or something like that) but about winning the match, sticking together with ones squadmates, providing covering fire and so on. It's quite deep actually and you need proper team mates to play with or else you'll end up walking alone in the jungle and get killed out of nowhere.

And there is Forgotten Hope 2 which i havent gotten to play yet. I don't know how many people are in there, but I can say that there always like 5 - 20 full 64-player servers in PR.

I also tried to play Bf2 vanilla but the grenade spams annoy me so much that I didn't stay long lol.

my favorite battlefield game is BF2142 and that I can honestly say it is dying by the seconds. But, BF2? hell no dude. Dice made it possible for BF2 to be sold in steam and that has kept BF2 alive like if it was released yesterday. Sad to say again that its not the case for BF2142. they shouldve sold it in steam too but they only gave that privilege to BF2

You should start playing BF play 4 free. Generally the same thing as BF2, just with a better leveling system and less maps XD.

also by the way BF3 is looking and doing....I don't think it's going to make BF2 obsolete. A lot of people are ok with the game and most don't even bother to say anything about the game cause at least they got a new game. But, there are a big bunch you can't ignore flooding the EA and battlelog forums just not happy with the game at all. being a battlefield 2 true fan or a CoD fan. Lets face it you cant please those two kinds of players with one game. Biggest mistake Dice did was to make a game to capture CoD gamers. I think true battlefield fans are more happy with BF2 still. I know I am. it is a much more complete battlefield game. Not saying BF3 is not good. yeah it's good but not better than BF2.
