    Grand Chase - Vista disabled again?

    According to the "Games that work in Windows XP but not Vista or Windows 7"
    at http://www.xfire.com/forums/182686/topic/1446824/ (sorry, couldn't find a reply button there), Grand Chase is on the list.

    Here's the weird thing though. Grand Chase Xfire in-game WAS working fine just a few days ago. I used it for two days, broadcast quite a bit of live gameplay, and also observed a bunch of other people posting links to their broadcasting on the game's official forums.

    But now it's not working again, and looking at the list in the topic I linked, it's on there.

    What's the deal? Is there anything I can do to remove the block on it?

    The only reason I can think of that it might be blocked was because the mouse cursor wasn't aligned with the xfire in-game interface, but keyboard navigation worked just fine.

    It's not disabled for vista.

    Game still registers as installed?Xfire status changes when you start the game?

    Start it via xfire and it's own shortcut, see if there's a change.

    I've had an issue with a game a few days ago, where there xfire overlay wouldn't appear in game, but it used to appear before.

    I just uninstalled and reinstalled xfire. Fixed that issue right away.

    Also, is your UAC disabled? That might conflict with xfire in some way.
    Google how to disable uac on vista and see if it helps.

    RE: Grand Chase - Vista disabled again?

    Well, it was on that list, I guess whoever is in charge of it should edit their post.

    But anyway, mine stopped working recently. There haven't been any changes in configuration on my computer, there hasn't been a game patch (there has, however, been an xfire update since I last used it), and I've tried the obvious stuff of restarting my computer, trying it again, reinstalling xfire, etc.

    Nothing seems to work, what's the next thing to try?

    I edited my post at the same time you posted. Try those things above.

    Yes, I've tried both my start menu shortcut and launching it from xfire. Initially my UAC was enabled and I was granting administrator access to Xfire every time it started up. It was working fine like this last time I was broadcasting, but as part of my troubleshooting, after I reinstalled Xfire, I disabled UAC and rebooted. And the detection works just fine, it's just the in-game that doesn't seem to want to work.

    And as for the game being detected as installed? Status changing etc?

    Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention and then went back and edited :-P Detection works fine.

    I should add that when I attempt to use it with the default keys (Scroll Lock + X, Scroll Lock + B), it just shows X and B in the game's chat window. So I guess whatever hooks into the keyboard input to see if you're attempting to pull up Xfire isn't working. I've tried both the default keys and my own custom ones (Replacing scroll lock with end, basically). And yes, I made sure that xfire in-game and braodcasting were enabled.

    This will seem retarded, I know, but enable uac again and run the game.

    Also, are you running xfire and/or game as administrator?

    RE: Grand Chase - Vista disabled again?

    I tried running both as administrator and without (with UAC enabled and running xfire as a normal user, it asks for administrator permission shortly after startup anyway). No difference.

    I am reinstalling GC now. Someone on the GC forums stated that there was a certain file that may be missing, but they were vague and didn't mention any details. I found it kind of fishy, but since my installation was dated July 2009 (around the same time I got this computer), I figured it wouldn't hurt to reinstall anyway.

    I do have DirectX 10 and there was a d3dx9d_30.dll in my GC directory before I uninstalled for this latest reinstall. So I'm not really sure what that person on the other forum may have been talking about.

    Will update with my progress after I'm done downloading and installing.

    After reinstalling the game from scratch, X-Fire would not detect it at all. When trying to manual detect, it said that it could not find the d3dx9d_30.dll file. I removed the line that said:

    InstallHint=d3dx9d_30.dll

    under Grand Chase in my xfire_games.ini and detection works again, but still no in-game.

    Can that game be run in anything other than direct x 9?
    I suppose that since you're on vista/7, you have directx 10 installed?
    Says on google that even with only dx10 installed, the game should still run, but, just for the sake of it, can you install dx9 and see if it makes any difference?

    Also, before you do that, can you go to the ini file and paste over InGameFlags this InGameFlags=VALIDATE_USING_EXE_NAME|DISABLE_DIRECT_INPUT_HOOK|DISABLE_RELEASE|USE_PRESENT

    That's going to disable the mouse, giving you the old xfire interface.

    See if that works (restart xfire after changes to the ini file)

    Yes, DirectX 10. I tried to install DirectX 9c, not sure if it actually did anything though since I already have a more recent version.

    Changed my ini and rebooted. Still no luck. I confirmed that my girlfriend's Xfire In-Game for Grand Chase quit working around the same time mine did. She has her own computer in a different location and there have been no common changes in our settings.

    Thanks for the help. Looks like most of the other players I've talked to are having the same problem (Detection works, but in-game doesn't). So I guess it's just something new with one of the recent patches.

    Hey I think sparticusx is onto something

    Go open your xfire_games.ini file and flip on over to grand chase.

    Remove these two lines from the entry:

    PlayingDetectType=ByWindowSubstr
    ProcessWindowTitle=GrandChase v08

    Restart xfire and see if that does the trick D;

    All that did was cause the detection to stop working a few seconds after the loading screen came up.

    It just started working again today. I swear I made no changes from last time I was testing it out and it wasn't working before I went to sleep last night. Confusing.

    This is what my current settings are for it, not sure how much they vary from the original as I've made so many changes I kinda forget what the original was.
