Xfire Crash with 6-Core AMD Processor

Ever since I installed my AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
XFire crashes on start, the icon appears in the tray and then i get the message:

The Xfire service has encountered a problem in the following application:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Brentt Graeb\Desktop\New Folder (4)\Xfire\Xfire.exe

I re-installed but it did not fix the issue!

    System Specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
    MSI NF980A-G65 Motherboard
    8GB Kingston HyperX RAM
    NVidia GeForce GTX 285
Windows XP x64 Professional Build 3790
    Dual Monitors (28' + 22')
    RAID Storage 1 TB
    WaterCooled

I downloaded this prog from majorgeek.com and it lets you set which core or cores to run any particular app on. I set Xfire to run on 1 core, and it is working fine now. The prog is supposed to work on NT/2K/XP, I am running XP, and I don't know about vista or 7.

Try using an older version of your video driver. This appears to happen with the latest release of video drivers for some reason.

WOOT, guys, i just fixed the problem, i was using the launcher app (from deadmeow post) with windows98 compatibility, just turn off this option from windows (if you activated earlier), and run xfire.exe using the launcher from deadmeow post!,

Thanks for the post deadmeow. I'll get this forwarded to Admins so it can be used as a temporary fix until Xfire fixes the crashing problems.

RE: Xfire Crash with 6-Core AMD Processor

Hey guys! I thought this was a little odd... SOOO I borrowed(ok, I traded computer for a week) my friends 6 AMD 1090T..... I tested this out, for fun, I had the glitch, =D(in this case cause I was testing, alway so I shot AMD an e-mail, to see...) anway, I finally figured out what it is, Xfire somehow isn't coded properly for this many threads, Odd because it works with my Work Gulftown computer.... anyway... this is what AMD said...

Thank you for contacting AMD. First of all, when following the link about your issue, that you provided, I noticed in the initial posting that someone has already listed a solution stating this is a software conflict. After further investigating it appears that this is directly related to the thread count/thread control in the software not being up to date/capable of working with six cores, and actually requires a software update by the manufacturer.

What I would suggest is contacting xfire directly and bringing this issue to their attention so that they may update their software or see if they can offer a hotfix for this issue.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at anytime.

In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.
    Best regards,

no1seriouslly - We really appreciate the work you've put into helping us with this. As the Xfire client updates, so will the threading and core support. Along with support for DirectX 10/11 and more social networking platforms, Xfire will continue to improve the service for everyone, bringing it more and more into the the new age of cutting-edge technology.

Thank you all for your support and dedication over the years. You won't be disappointed with our soon-to-come updates!

RE: Xfire Crash with 6-Core AMD Processor

Same here, I've had the 1055T at 4GHz with Xfire running 24/7 for several months now and it hasn't crashed.

Maybe it has something to do with Windows XP itself.

RE: Xfire Crash with 6-Core AMD Processor

Hi guys glad to be here, first time post. I too am getting a similar error when I try to run XFire. I have the AMD Phenom II 1090T Thuban Hex core as well, and a Radeon HD5830 card. I have noticed that xFire will load with the display driver NOT INSTALLED, but then when I do install it the driver, xfire won't load or I get an exception error kicked back at me. Doesn't matter if I load the latest Catalyst or the files that came with the card itself. Can someone explain in a little more detail what this program that was mentioned by Deadmeow to limit the XFire program to execute or run on only one core of the CPU does? Has anyone had success with doing that, and is it a permanent fix or just a workaround for now?

EDIT: Downloaded the Win2K Launcher Program and so far XFire launches correctly without crashing or hanging, and with the latest Catalyst Driver installed.

Xfire is aware of this issue and is working on a fix... If you need to run with all six cores, try the fix mentioned above...

    This problem still exists.

I am on a Asus Crosshair 4 motherboard with AMD 1090T cpu.
The problem occurs in WinXP 32bit.
The problem does not occur in Win7x64.

    Thanks,
