Hey all,
We're testing a new feature on Xfire.com called "Server pages".
These are essentially Profile pages for your Favorite game servers. They will display screenshots taken from that server, who's currently gaming there and so forth.
They are not currently linked to anywhere on Xfire.com so you have to type the URL in manually. Here's how:
The URL for Server pages consists of three parts. The main URL (xfire.com/servers), the game short name, and the IP of the server.
If you have some Favorite servers defined in your Xfire client, a quick way to find these are go to your own Profile page. Right click on the "Join" button and select 'copy link location'. Now open notepad and paste that link into notepad.
Here's an example from my Favorites:
xfire:join?game=bf1942&server=70.86.54.20:14567
This gives you the short name and the IP. Now combine the three parts and turn it into a hyperlink like this:
http://www.xfire.com/servers/bf1942/70.86.54.20:14567/
Check it out with some of your own Favorites and let us know what you think!
Feel free to post your feedback or report any problems you may encounter in this thread.
Thanks for reading!
More info from the developer:
Something to remember first: We do not update these pages instantly, so you may be looking at slightly stale information. As we test the feature more, we will reduce the time that it takes for these pages to update, so don't worry.
There are 3 states this page can be in.
1) Server is down. If this comes up, that means the server is truly down, or we are unable to query it.
2) Server hasn't been tracked before. This means that no one has played on the server before, that uses Xfire (No need to track servers that people don't play on). You actually don't need to play on it for us to track it, but now you have added to our list. It will only take a few seconds to get the new data, and the page will refresh when it does.
3) Server Information. This will come up if we have information for the server. You will be able to see the server's name, amount of players, and all sorts of other information. On the right side, is a map preview (more about this later). Right below the info, is a player list. You can sort by Player Name, Score, or even Ping (sometimes).
You will also be able to see screenshots that people have taken on that server!
